Personas

  • Gradebook Declaration: I have published two blog posts on my course blog, each one containing a persona that is between 100 and 200 words.

In last week’s Reflections Essay, you wrote about the objectives and the intended for your final project.  For this assignment, you will be exploring that intended audience in more depth by creating two personas. Use the persona in the textbook (pages 36-38), the “Sara Locke” persona, and the “Joe Jones” persona (slide 25) as a reference. Here are some ideas and topics to get you started on your personas:

  • Think of two different segments of the intended audience for your web site. You may be able to segment your intended audience into more than two segments, but just focus on two. Create two personas, one form each of the segments.
  • Provide some basic information about these two personas: name, age, occupation, location. (You may want to look for photos
  • How much do they use the web? Is it a primary part of their job? Or is it something they do in their spare time?
  • What will impress them about your site? The design? The frequency of updates? The knowledge they learn from your content? Your skills?
  • When will they visit your web site? What time of day? How much time will they have to spend? Will they be in an office at a desk? Or at home on a laptop on the couch? Or on an iPhone waiting for a train?
  • What will make them go to your web site? Clicking a link in an email you sent them? Clicking a link at the end of some content you have published elsewhere on the internet? Typing in a web address off a business card or resume? Finding your site in an internet search?
  • What will they expect from your web site? What do they like to see? What do they dislike?
  • What will they value in you? What will impress them? What will make them respond to your site the way you want?
