- Gradebook Declaration: I participated in the in-class exercise on Friday, April 13, and I have published a blog post on my course blog that is between 300 and 1000 words long. The post contains at least one image and at least three text hyperlinks to other web sites. I have spellchecked and proofread the post.
In class on Friday, April 13, Stephen P. Anderson talked about “Seductive Interactions.” He had us brainstorm how we might use facts of human psychology to help design a better email system. For this assignment, you will need to create a post in your course blog discussing your thoughts on this topic. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- What does Stephen mean by “seductive interactions”? Is his approach manipulative and coercive? Describe how Stephen relates business goals, user behaviors, and interaction design together. How is this all related to usability?
- Stephen mentioned LinkedIn, Netflix, and MailChimp as examples of websites that used principles of human psychology to achieve their business goals. What techniques did they use? Which principles of human psychology did these techniques tap into?
- Stephen had us brainstorm ways we could use Delighters and Humor, Visual Imagery, and Curiosity to improve a university program’s website. What ways did your team come up with? Which ideas suggested by other students seemed good to you? Stephen mentioned other principles: Peak-End Rule, Scarcity, Ownership Bias, and Loss Aversion. Brainstorm now about those three items.
- How can you incorporate these principles of human psychology into your final projects for this course.
