Technology Activity: FTP
DUE Sunday, Feb 19 – 3 points
(Monday NOON deadline)
- Gracebook Declaration: I have uploaded an HTML file to my web hosting account. I have posted a link to the HTML file on my course blog.
In Week 03′s HTML File assignment, you created an HTML file. For this assignment, you will need to upload that file to your web hosting account.
FTP
You will need to upload the file through FTP to your web server. (I would recommend putting it in a folder called “atec3361″ or something like that, something other than the main home page for your domain.) We will cover using FTP during class. I would really like you to use an FTP program like FileZilla for this assignment; that’s why I am offering two bonus points for using it on this particular assignment (05. BONUS: FTP Program). If you cannot install software on your computer, you can upload files through the browser using these instructions:
Webfaction
- Visit [https://webftp.dreamhost.com/] in your browser.
- Specify the following values with details from the email Webfaction sent you:
- Host: %username%.webfactional.com
- Login: %username%
- Password: %password%
- Start: /home/%username%/webapps
- There should just be the one folder inside webapps, the one that Webfaction created for you. Click on that folder to browse into it.
- Click on Upload > From Computer.
- Click browser to pick the file from your computer, then click Send, and then click Close.
Other Hosts
Here are some links to tutorials about how to do this from within the control panel at the other web hosts I recommended:
- ICD Soft: File Manager
- BlueHost: Using File Manager
- HostGator: How to upload using the File Manager
Blog Post
After you have completed all the steps above, you should visit the page in a web browser. Create a blog post on your course blog with a link to that HTML file.
